The Fort Hood shooting A shooting occurred in Fort Hood on the 5th of November 2009. Fort Hood base, in Texas, is the biggest US military base in the world. Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a US Army psychiatrist, opened fire with two hand guns in the Soldier Readiness center killing 13 people and wounding 30 others. He was finally wounded 4 times by a woman police officer and transferred to hospital. The reasons of the shooting are not very cleared. Major Hasan was to be deployed soon in Afghanistan or Iraq and was upset about it. He was considering himself as a Muslim first and an American second. He was also complaining of racist harassment at work. His job in the Army as a psychiatrist was to take care of soldiers coming back from Iraq or Afghanistan with post-traumatic stress. Major Hasan knew what these soldiers felt about war. President Obama qualified this event as “tragic” and as “a horrific outburst of violence”. He said that it was difficult enough to lose men abroad, but even worse on American soil. He also highlighted how men had helped each other during the shooting as a value of America.

He tried to establish a new era in international relations: By sorting out the war in Iraq and focusing on Afghanistan By trying to cool down the relations with Iran about their nuclear program And working hard on the conflict between Israel and Palestine
Barack Obama also received a Nobel price of Peace and is currently defending his project for a global health care in the USA.
