Arabic: Scheme of work for Year 1 Year 1, Term 1 About this unit In this unit the children learn to greet others, respond to classroom instructions, memorise a poem and recognise some animals and colours. The expectation is that the pupil will become familiar and comfortable with Arabic. It is important that these activities are repeated again and again to build confidence. New language content: ·Greeting in Arabic ·Counting to ten ·Classroom instructions ·Nouns for animals ·Nouns for colours ·Poem (O One Who I worship) Expectations At the end of this unit Most pupils will: (inshaa-Allaah) understand and respond to simple classroom instructions; use spoken Arabic to greet others; count to ten in sequence; recognise orally animal nouns; recognise orally six colours and memorise a poem. Some pupils will not have made so much progress and will: understand simple classroom instructions with prompting and visual support; respond to greetings in Arabic, recognise animal nouns and six colours with visual clues and memorise simple poem. Some pupils will have progressed further and will: recall and produce classroom instructions and animal and colour nouns from memory with accurate pronunciation; and memorise poem.
