UNDP is the UNs global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP is on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and its wide range of partners. UNDP has had a representative office in Iran since 1966, only a year after its foundation. The organization has worked closely with its major development partners to promote sustainable human development in rural and urban communities. Dozens of UNDP-funded projects in such diverse areas as poverty alleviation, good governance, sustainable preservation of the environment, crisis prevention and recovery, trade, agriculture and education have been implemented successfully.
Country Programme for Iran (2005-2009)
A Country Programme defines a limited number of objectives to be achieved by each UN agency in a country over a certain period of time. The UNDP Country Programme for Iran (2005-2009) was prepared in 2004 through a series of extensive consultations with key development partners in the country including the Government, the civil society, the international community and the UN system. It focuses primarily on strengthening capacities and capabilities for achieving MDGs, enhancing good governance, improving economic performance, employment generation, sustainable development, disaster management and energy efficiency.
