I- What is Twitter?
Twitter is a microblog and a social network like Facebook, Jaiku, ... . With Tweeter, you can send short messages up to 140 characters. These messages are called Tweets. Unlike Facebook, it's not possible to comment these messages. Tweeter was founded in 2006. But it was translated into French since 2009. The concept is to say what we do when we do it. This is the reason why the first slogan of Twitter was "What are you doing?" and then "What's happening?". Now the slogan is “The best way to discover what's new in your world”. I'll show you the website and I chose the Twitter of Lady gaga like example. As you can see, she has posted different Tweets and links to photos and videos. Each person has a number of Following and Followers. For example, Lady Gaga has about 9 million followers, it means that 9 million people have subscribed to the news of Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga follows the news of more than a hundred thousand people, it's her followings.. So it's a simple concept.

- Twitter is a company founded in 2006 with 29 employees. Today there are 300 employees. The company is located in San Francisco, California. Twitter has received an award in 2007: the South by Southwest Web Award in the category Blog.

II- Success of Tweeter

- I will now talk about the success of Twitter. In 2010 there were 200 Billion Members: individuals, actors, singers, journalists, politicians and companies. Twitter was a great success and a big infuatuation, and even today. There are approximately 200 million visits per month. 40% of users post messages to Twitter with their mobile phones.

- To date, the value of Twitter is estimated at 10 billion. Twitter doesn't generate income because it's free and it does't do advertising. To operate, Twitter is funded by initial public offering. Twitter has a contract with socialmedia who can use tweets and publish them anywhere. In 2009, Facebook would have taken over Tweeter for 500 million $.
