A National Inquiry was set up in 1995. It found that removal of indigenous children was a violation of human rights which continue after Australia had undertaken international human rights commitments. It was racially discriminatory, because it only applied to Aboriginal children, and It was an act of genocide contrary to the Convention on Genocide, (which forbids transferring children of group to another group’ with the intention of destroying the group.). Australia elected a new Government on 24th November 2007 - it's policy is to make a formal apology to the Stolen generations. People of the Stolen Generation have started legal actions for compensation against the Government, probably millions of dollars.The Government declares that removal of children was done for their own good. In 2007 compensations were find for the stolen children. The report "Restoring Identity", proposing a reparations tribunal for the stolen generations, has widespread support by Indigenous people. Ministers for Aboriginal Affairs in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia welcoming the report and detailing their initiatives to implement the recommendations.
Today, Thousands of Aborigines faced a life of family breakdowns, drug and alcohol abuse, violence and mental anguish They Say IS Directly linked to Being Taken from Their Parents.
Many Aboriginal groups while they can feel adequately compensated for never be the loss of their families, since the Bringing Them Home Report was released there has been "a strong year for campaign official apology by the Australian Government." One of the key recommendations of Bringing Them Home Report was an official apology from the government, as well as "compensation for the suffered caused by the government.
In 1997 The Prime Minister John Howard then refused to make an official apology. He justified his idea by the fact thats the current generation "should not be responsible for the mistakes of the past." Critics pointed
