Ile de ré
L’ile de Ré is situated in the Atlantic Ocean faced to La Rochelle on Charentes-Maritimes.
It links La Rochelle by a bridge.
It measures 85 km2.
So, I will present you the island in 4parts :

1- Heritage
The island has lots of historics monuments like :
- Le phare des baleines (lighthouse) , it's the most touristical site
- surrounding wall and his doors , then the citadel built by Vauban.
The monuments are inscribed on the Unesco world heritage list.
- the ruins of the abbey Notre Dame de Ré
- museum of "la maison du PLATIN"
2- Culture and Gastronomy
The culture of the island is rich and original : for example , we can see : l'âne en culotte, the donkeys wear socks otherwise they are attacked by moustics on the swamps. It's very funny for children.
Furthermore, the vendéen patois is used by the population. It's a symbol of the culture heritage.
On the sight of gastronomy we can taste lots of seafood : mussels, oysters, crabs ... and a lot of fish.
The salt is nicknammed the "white gold" for the island.
You can also taste the famous alcohol : the cognac
( there are others wines like the Pineau or the Charentais)
3- Sports
We can discover differents nautics sports because the conditions (wind and waves) are presents all the year : kitesurf, windsurf, surf ...
You can also do sailing.
4- Economy
The economy is symbolised by the tourism ( it has 18.000 habitants all the year and 200.000 visitors for the high season), the agriculture and the culture of the salt and the oyster farming.
We can conclude by saying that L'ile de Ré has an important heritage which attract tourists
