This group work (written report + oral presentation) is mandatory and will count for 50 % of the final grade in the law section of the course Business Environment. You will have to present your solution of the case study during an oral defence on October 23, 2010 (date to be confirmed). The oral presentation should last 15 minutes. The written report should list the names of all group members. It is due the day of your presentation, and has to be handed to the jury at the beginning of the presentation. Please form groups of 6 – 8 students and register the names of your group members on MyICN. You may work with anybody enrolled in the course Business Environment (TCGB) independently from the sub groups. You may not work with students enrolled in the French version of the course. You may write and present your report in French, but you are highly encouraged to present in English.
The « YAHOO ! » case
A suit against Yahoo! Inc. was brought in France in April 2000 by the International League Against Racism & Anti-Semitism (LICRA) and the Union of French Jewish Students (UEJF). Both organizations are dedicated to fight against Anti-Semitism.
On May 22, 2000, the French Tribunal de grande instance de Paris ordered US based company Yahoo! Inc. to eliminate French citizens' access to any material on the Yahoo.com auction site that offers for sale any Nazi objects, relics, insignia, emblems, and to remove from all browser directories accessible in France index headings entitled "negationists" and from all hypertext links the equation of "negationists" under the heading "Holocaust." Failing to comply with the order will result in a 10,000 Franc fine per day.
On November 20, 2000, after a panel of three experts concluded that there was technology available to filter the site the court confirmed its order.
